First kidney transplantation from a living donor

The first kidney transplantation in the Commonwealth was performed at Montreal’s Royal Victoria Hospital in 1958. This transplant procedure was performed on a living donor and a recipient, in this case twin sisters. More than 5,000 kidney transplants have since been performed in Quebec.
