First transplantation of pancreatic islets in Quebec

Quebec’s first pancreatic islet transplantation was performed at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) by Dr. Steven Paraskevas. The transplantation of pancreatic islets does not require surgery and considerably reduces the duration of hospital stays. The procedure marked an important breakthrough in the treatment of type-1 diabetes.
